"I started dancing with Lou about 3 1/2 years ago. At the time I was in very bad shape having lost my husband to cancer, my mother-in-law a few months later. I was reluctant to go anywhere, just trying to get my new business off the ground. A very good friend of mine talked me into attending dance classes. She at the time was in the second beginner level and I joined. I started taking private lessons right away and got "totally hooked". I always loved dancing but somehow happened to have such good partners that my little knowledge at the time did not matter, my partner made me look good anyway. Now I am with Lou the fourth year, in his classes and as a private student once a week. He is much more strict during these lessons and more than once I went home without any energy left.
I dance with other teachers, workshops, privates, etc. Every teacher has his own style and naturally there is some need to adjust. Some are more strict with technical issues and styling, but their classes are mostly much smaller. Hardly have I attended a class with more than 20 students. So there is more time for individual coaching. But for that purpose Lou has recently added the "Styling Class".

My advice to everybody who likes to dance: attend the "Styling Class", take some private lessons or sign up for workshops with other teachers once in a while to find out for yourself what you are doing wrong. Believe me, it is "enlightening" we all make mistakes and don't even notice! You will be a much better dancer - leader - follower and your partners will truly enjoy dancing with you! Thanks to Lou and his team we all got a great foundation from where we can build on, make the best out of it!" - Erika

My friend Luz convinced me to sign up for these classes with Lou Schrieber (the owner of the business).  She teaches with him on Thursdays at the other location in Redondo Beach. I have been going since last September, and the fees are totally reasonable ($35 for your first 6 sessions, and $65 for every six weeks you sign up for after that.  Plus there are package deals, discounts, and ballroom dances that you can sign up for.).

Plus there are 3 other locations (Redondo Beach, West Los Angeles, and Pacific Palisades).  So, if you miss your regularly scheduled class you can come early and make up the other lessons another day.

They start off very basic.  I go as a single.  Sometimes to this one and sometimes to the Redondo Beach location.  Other people sign up as a couple.

They move slowly and even poor dancers find themselves doing well over time.  You learn everything from salsa, waltz, tango, swing, rumba, fox trot, hustle, disco two step, and more.

Most of the attendees are older (like 45 and up), but there are a few of us in our 20s and 30s.  Regardless, it's great exercise, and you feel really confident on any dance floor after just a few series of lessons."

My boyfriend (32) and I (29) absolutely love this class.  We've already signed up for another session.

Remember, you don't have to come in as a couple.  There are plenty of singles in the class too.  Even when you come as a couple, as a beginner, you are often split and assigned to a more advance student so you don't make mistakes together.

And, if you're like us, where schedules change from one week to another.  We love how the class alters to our ever-changing schedule.  Thus, if we can't make it to our regular Monday class or if we feel the need to practice a little bit more on one move we learned that week, we can join another class in the Westside/South Bay on another night.

Well, enough of the sales pitch.  Lou, Nila, Colleen, and the whole bunch are great.  Plus, for first time members, Goldstar offers an awesome deal at $45, use link: http://www.goldstar.co....  Or, you can email me and I'll can get you the referral discount of $35 only, also for first-timers.  Note, this class is $85 otherwise.

Ok... I hope to see you on the dance floor.

Anyone that can teach my BF to dance (who used to look like a baby dancing), really knows how to teach.

We were awful the first couple of classes.  I wanted to lead, he wanted to tell me what I was doing wrong, and we fought.  That;s why you don't dance with the person you came with right away.  You dance with someone who is more experienced than you, and step on their toes instead.

Now we dance great.  In a year we learned to swing, waltz, foxtrot, swing-hustle, salsa, merangue, tango, and two-step.  Lou is a fantastic teacher, and his volunteer staff are really helpful.

Go with a smile and be ready to laugh at yourself.

Ok... I hope to see you on the dance floor.
